Tucked away in a refurbished 19th-century brick-and-beam heritage building behind Vancouver’s famed L’Abattoir restaurant, No. 1 Gaoler’s Mews offers an exclusive, eight-seat kitchen counter style dining experience hosted one evening each month. Glasfurd & Walke designed the identity, elegant welcome packages mailed in advance, bespoke table settings, and custom décor and keepsake gifts along with signage that pops up only for the night of the event. Each No. 1 Gaoler’s Mews dining event is hosted by Chef/Owner Lee Cooper and L’Abattoir Restaurant Director Lisa Haley. Seasonal multi-course menus change each month and feature elevated French-via-West Coast fare prepared right in front of guests eyes in an intimate open kitchen. No. 1 Gaoler’s Mews is housed within a quaint, cobblestone courtyard that was the site of the city’s first courthouse and jail before it burned down in Vancouver’s great fire of 1886.
